[bracket] vol1

Here is the first image on forthcoming [bracket] vol. 1, "On Farming", that Mason C White has posted in his Flickr's page...
[bracket] will be published by Actar Editorial. I am looking forward reading this first issue on farm. According to [bracket] website, it may be available in spring 2010 (here we are!).
[bracket] will not be a common magazine but an almanach, that is:
a publication containing astronomical and meteorological data for a given year and often including a miscellany of other information.
As InfraNet Lab? If I'm doubly impatient…

SANAA ongoing Parisian 135-unit social housing

SANAA, who has won the 2010 Priztker Price, is building 135-unit social housing development located 45-47 Marechal Fayolle Avenue in the 16th quarter of Paris. This project is the result of a project launched by the Paris Habitat -OPH. It will replace a building and a blockhaus. which had been slotted for demolition.
The programme consists of 135-unit housing 103-unit parking, and a part for landscape (not yet specified). This project aims at connecting housing, sustainability and quality.

As usually, the relationship between interior and exterior will be one of the core element. I can't confirm what kind of materials they will use till the project is not yet constructed. But the question of the relationship between interior and exterior is one of the key element of their architectural approach, so it may be not surprising that materials such as glass — to play with transparency — will be used.

This construction will be characterized by curved and generous façades, two orientations for more natural light, ventilation and views, probably for sustainability requirements. It will consist of 4 buildings that will be built on piles, 5 stories respectively.

The landscaped part will be characterized by trees, so forth.
The site area is 4650 sqm near housings, a park and a road ring. At its side, it will border onto a park, tennis court, and at the back, buildings. It used to be a building and a blockhaus which were built in this site. Sanaa social housing project will be completed in January 2011.
I really update this post as soon as I will receive more information and pictures.

AMO presents vision for a decarbonized European power grid to EU leaders

A quick post just to share what I am reading: AMO presents vision for a decarbonized European power grid to EU leaders.
You will get further information in OMA's website. I will only sum up the content of this news.
Brussels, 13 April, 2010 – AMO, the think tank within the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), has extended its expertise in planning into the design of the future energy infrastructure of the EU as part of Roadmap 2050: A Practical Guide to a Prosperous, Low-Carbon Europe. The project, proposing an EU-wide decarbonized power grid by 2050, launches in Brussels today to an audience of European leaders.
Roadmap 2050 is a project commissioned by the European Climate Foundation. It is based on extensive technical, economic and policy analyses conducted by 5 leading consultanciesImperial College London, KEMA, McKinsey & Company, Oxford Economics and AMO.
What ?
The project is based on European leaders' commitment to an 80-95 percent reduction in CO2 emissions by 2050. The report outlines why a zero-carbon power sector is required to meet this commitment and illustrates its feasibility by 2050, given existing technology. The project then aims to chart a policy roadmap for the next 5-10 years based on the near-term implications of this commitment. Through the complete integration and synchronization of the EU's energy infrastructure, Europe can take maximum advantage of its geographic diversity: by 2050, the simultaneous presence of various renewable energy sources within the EU can create a complementary system of energy provision ensuring energy security for future generations.
And AMO's contribution is…
AMO contributed to the content development through the production of a graphic narrative which conceptualizes and visualizes the geographic, political, and cultural implications of the integrated, decarbonized European power sector.
AMO's contribution is based on 2 projects: the first one is the image of Europe exhibition commissioned by the Dutch EU Presidency in 2004. And the second one is Zeekracht a plan that OMA made in 2008 for a ring of offshore wind farms in the North Sea.
I checked the link roadmap2050 to get further information. You can find information, booklets and video on this project. And you can download OMA's contribution in collaboration with the ECF.
