Updated: Today's project: Green Skyscraper: Vertical Urban Farmlands by Guillaume Letschert, Dorian Bernards and Myriam Cesaroni

Three young architects Guillaume Letschert, Dorian Bernards and Myriam Cesaroni, proposed four years ago* to the American magazine eVolo a research entitled Vertical Urban Farmlands with the aim of exploring farming in urban areas. Opting for a vertical organization of farming activities, the idea is to "seek a miniaturization of agriculture for cities around the globe" as the world is confirming its shift into an urban era that will be accompanied with risks of land and food shortages, among other increasingly pressures.

Letchert, Bernards and Cesaroni articulate 10 dynamics that shape these skyscrapers, as listed below:
Think global, act local
Maximize returns
Produce food where people live
Obtain maximum yield and caloric production
Minimize transportation, storage, and energy waste
Integrate natural systems
Use limited area of land
Reduce energy consumption
Recycle
Share and distribute excess.

* Erratum: this is not three months ago, but four years ago. Apologize (and thanks) to Myriam Cesaroni for this mistake. Myriam Cesaroni pointed out that this project was enrolled in the 2008 eVolo Competition.

Hi,

thank you for posting our project!!

But there is a small mistake, this project was enrolled in the 2008 Evolo Competition, so four years ago, not three months.

By the way, it's very pleasant to see that our project is still appreciated.

Best regard,
Myriam Cesaroni
