The Art Gallery derives its shape from the relationship between key elements: first the site and urban environment of Maribor; and the four programs.

Four loops four programs
The shape consists of four loops that interconnected to form a continuous space.

Each loop contains its own program — the Children's Museum, the Architecture Museum, the Creative Industrial Museum, and the Digital Arts Museum. Brian de Luna and James Vincent say that the programs have a strong influence on these continuous loops.

Landmark for Maribor
Another aspect underlined above is the desire to design a building that acts as a landmark that would contribute to the revitalization of the city both locally and globally.
